Their selection process is rigorous and targeted toward only those physicians who provide high level clinical and interpersonal skills as well as a proven track record for committee and department participation plus a commitment to patient satisfaction, all on a long-term basis. Those fortunate few who qualify will be given the opportunity to achieve equal equity ownership of one of the most successful groups in the specialty. The main facility where the new physicians will work is a 58K/ level 3 trauma center that is bright, spacious, pleasant and fully computerized with EMRs. The ED enjoys 24/7 radiologist coverage and full specialty back-up coming from within the hospital system. The group staffs additional sites within the hospital system that include a brand new suburban community hospital, a wonderful free-standing ED in an affluent community, a combination of community and urban sites and an award-winning children's hospital with a full pediatric emergency department staffed by all PED-EM board certified physicians who also are part of the group. Incoming physicians will be assigned to the main site where they will be primary ED staff, though they are welcome to pick-up extra shifts at other sites if desired. Shifts run 8, 10 and 12 hours and full time is 144 hours per month. All physicians are scheduled with total shift equity on a template system, then they are free to make trades as desired. A full fast track is in place and staffed by mid-level providers who work for the group. The facility is a designated stroke and chest pain center and has ultrasound in the ED with certification capability. EPs don't leave the department or write admit orders. Transfers within the system are accomplished with ease and there is little holding. Several of their physicians are involved with one of the many EMS programs in the region including both air and ground transport. Any interest in EMS can easily become involvement. The health care system's medical staff value the ED group as an integral part of their community and consults are managed without difficulty. Administrative support is incomparable and the group is in the top 5% Health Grades for emergency medicine in the country. This is simply one of the highest-level practice environments in the country, with a totally democratic group. Those EM boarded physicians with 5 years or more experience earn full partner RVU-levels of $200 an hour and higher, purchasing partnership with pre-tax dollars over six years with little impact on annual income. Recently graduated physicians are employees for 3,456 hours (average 2 years at 144 hours per month) and then become equal equity shareholders with a $1,000 purchase of share holder status. There is no buy-in as the first two years are considered earned-equity. As employees, physicians earn a base salary of $216,000, and a 401K match of $11K as well as malpractice and tail and CME expenses. Extra shifts (over 144 a month) are reimbursed at $125 per hour. Incoming physicians will be reimbursed for moving expenses to a cap of $5K. Once shareholder status is achieved, reimbursement is earned 70% RVUs, 20% committees and citizenship and 10% risk-prevention participation. Shareholder incomes range $320K and higher, depending upon hours worked and RVUs. A sign-on bonus is also available depending upon experience. The group strives to retain a total democratic environment, with a representative for every four of their 64 physicians.
