A unique opportunity for an EMS Physician to become FULL TIME Medical Director!
The System:
The Saginaw Valley Medical Control Authority (SVMCA) governs a two-county EMS System in eastern mid-Michigan, which has a nice blend of urban, suburban, and rural areas, with the corresponding patient mix and prehospital challenges. The population is approximately 265,000 with minimal seasonal variation. The system is a heterogeneous tiered design. There are 4 acute care hospitals with 5 emergency departments, as well as a long-term care/psychiatric facility and a full service VA Hospital. It has 15 non-transporting agencies at the level of MFR and BLS mostly fire-based, 5 transporting agencies at the BLS and ALS levels mostly private, with one predominant ALS transporting agency covering most of the system, and 2 hospital-based helicopter services. The MCA is actively involved in the region, and serves as an important “medical hub” for a catchment area of about 15-20 counties.
The Position:
The EMS Medical Director is a full time position for the SVMCA, which contracts with Synergy Medical Education Alliance for medical oversight and direction services. Synergy Medical is a not-for-profit educational corporation sponsoring multiple residencies, including a PGY 1-3 emergency medicine residency with 24 residents and is a campus of Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. The EMS MD directs an office of 4 personnel, which include an EMS Manager, EMS Coordinator and an Administrative Assistant. In addition, this individual shall be a full-time faculty member of the emergency medicine residency with academic rank through MSU, responsible for the EMS portion of the curriculum, and provide clinical services in the 2 community ED training sites. The EMS MD will be BC\BP in emergency medicine, eligible for faculty appointment at MSU, and have completed an EMS fellowship or have equivalent extensive EMS experience.
Mid-Michigan provides an excellent family oriented environment with 4 season recreation, affordable housing, and good schools. There are two state Universities, a private University and a private College in the area, as well as professional hockey and baseball teams. Extensive recreational opportunities are in the area and within short commute. The county has the second most popular tourist area for the state and the largest outlet mall in the state.
