St. Bernards Medical Center is a 375-bed facility, which serves as the regional referral center for 23 counties and offers the latest in technology and expertise and offers all clinical specialties. The Emergency Department is one of the busiest in the state. St. Bernards Medical Center has areas of excellence in cardiology, oncology, women's health, infectious disease, wound healing, sleep disorders, and senior healthcare.
St. Bernard's operates a dedicated research center with three full time research coordinators and necessary support staff. The Center collaborates with the family practice residency program from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, AHEC Northeast, Arkansas State University, and Paragould Doctors' Clinic. |

A college town, Jonesboro (population of 59,000) is the largest city in northeastern Arkansas and the fifth most populous city in the state. (See the Map). It is the principal city of the Jonesboro Metropolitan Statistical Area having a total population of 153,000. The city is a regional center for manufacturing, agriculture, medicine, education, and trade. Jonesboro services a rich agricultural area with many processing plants. Its diverse manufacturers include construction materials; plastic, glass, and paper products, processed foods, transportation equipment, apparel and machinery. |

Jonesboro is the home to Arkansas State University. Current enrollment for the Jonesboro campus stands at about 12,000. Programs at the specialist's, master's, bachelor's and associate's degree levels are available through the various colleges: Agriculture, Business, Communications, Education, Engineering, Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Nursing and Health Professions, Sciences and Mathematics, and University College. |
Outdoor attractions near Jonesboro include Craighead Forest Park and Crowley's Ridge State Park. Craighead Forest Park is a city-owned park located in the scenic beauty of Crowley's Ridge. The park offers many recreational opportunities for the public to enjoy, including several miles of trails for various uses.
Crowley's Ridge State Park is located 15 miles north of Jonesboro and includes a 31-acre fishing lake and a 3 1/2-acre swimming lake. Interpretive programs are offered here at the park throughout the year.
Jonesboro is served by a regional airport which offers airline service to Dallas/Fort Worth. Memphis, with all of its cultural, sports and entertainment attractions is only a litle more than an hour away. The city of Memphis also provides an International Airport for convenient travel for residents of northeast Arkansas.
